Burwood Library & Ultimo TAFE Library

Burwood Library re-opened last week, and I finally got to check it out on Tuesday. It looks pretty fantastic, if still a little loud due to the large amount of students, who often socialise more than they seem to study. I wish they'd gotten a room in the same way as the children did.

Regardless of my personal complaint, they have used to the space really well. Everything has room to breathe compared to the cluttered old library. They seem to have more books than before, which is absolutely amazing! (Or maybe everyone suddenly returned books I haven't come across).

The view from the second floor, which is mainly for adult fiction, is my favourite. You can see the bridge that goes over the train tracks, where we park just right on the other side.

I found some great books to borrow, and I also managed to lengthen my to-read list.

 

This is another post about Ultimo Library. Picture 1 is their amazing science section, which I was drooling over a little (erm, again). Pictures 2 & 3 are purely about computers and programming, and what is pictured here only goes up to 5.7, as the collection continues onto the other side. I am amazed. This is the biggest programming section I have seen in my life.

There are so many library books (books about libraries, I should say), that I want to check out, and I pictured a few of them below, including the stack that I ended up borrowing.

I also want to comment on the puzzle that they have set up. A communal puzzle in an adult environment is amazing, and I think they are awesome for making this available.

 

Puzzle - Day 4

Pete got really disappointed as we were left with only the sky, as we made very little headway. We were lucky to get one piece every minute, and then one every five. He disappeared for a extended periods of time, and I called him back as things were narrowing in, until we got stuck again. Eventually I got it down to seventy pieces (I had to count because I was getting more than a little stressed at the lack of progress!), and through persistence and really staring at the puzzle, I took it down to 21, at which point I called Pete back and we finished it together.

Just a note to say that the exhaustive method didn't work for either of us. We had a chunk of finished puzzle with only one piece missing, and sixteen possible pieces, only to find that none of them fit. It was probably us being careless... But once you can clearly see, as we call it in amateur puzzle lingo, a distinct piece like a hooky bit / doopy / sharp bit / wonky leg, and matching texture and colour, it suddenly fits.

Maybe this is just an anti-cheat puzzle.

Regardless, this is the last puzzle I will be doing for a while that has a large stretch of sky with very little distinctions...

Puzzle - Day 3

Everyone is so over this now that every piece left is either yellow with a little bit of white, or white with a little bit of yellow, or equal parts both, and has the possibility to go absolutely freaking anywhere.

This was a terrible first choice of a couply puzzle. I did this before, but I was 1) very sick, and had lots of time on my hands, and 2) single.

I'm not sure when we will finish this... but it won't be soon enough.

Puzzle - Day 2

We were supposed to attend a party today, but neither of us are party-goers, so we spent a few minutes jokingly coming up with excuses. In the end, Pete was relieved to find out he had a prior commitment anyway.

At one point during this, he said: "This is much better than going to a party." I couldn't agree more, and couldn't be happier. This is a fine hobby to share with a loved one, and I am looking forward to seeing this picture complete.
