"Google, Tell Me. Is My Son A Genius?" is a really interesting article I stumbled upon last week that I've kept open in a tab with the intention of sharing it here. It begins, "MORE than a decade into the 21st century, we would like to think that American parents have similar standards and similar dreams for their sons and daughters. But my study of anonymous, aggregate data from Google searches suggests that contemporary American parents are far more likely to want their boys smart and their girls skinny."
It explores the statistics of specific searches with the distinction of boys and girls, compares trends between countries, and briefly analyses the connotations of these searches.
(The artist of this piece, Ana Albero, has some lovely illustrations, go check out her site here.)
